A Coward In Love Poem by Lily Ives

A Coward In Love

Rating: 4.0

Boats, shores and all the blue
can't distract me
from the way I feel about you.
As the tide swells, I dwell
in that cave by the ocean's edge
on all those missed moments when I
could have,
should have,
expressed the love verses percolating
through my heart from the day we've met.
I sat countless of times near you and
on the far side of you,
hiding behind bones and cartilage
because I wasn't prepared darling,
to crumble like a brittle seashell
in case you said, that your heart was
docking at someone else's bay.

'because I wasn't prepared darling, to crumble like a brittle seashell in case you said, that your heart was docking at someone else's bay' - a poetic expression of a genuine fear! Well done!
