A Cruel Disease Poem by Dafydd Davies

A Cruel Disease

Alzheimer's, or Dementia
They Are both the same
For those of us
who've been there
Will surely know the pain

To watch the ones
we love so much
Slowly slip away

And even though
we Try our best
All we can do Is pray

A cruel disease
That's kills their mind
Destroying the people
Who once were kind

There they sit
Without a clue
A blank expression
Not knowing you

Some days you ask
Some days you pray
You ask God please
take them away

Not to suffer
No more pain
Take them to heaven
There wings to gain

For those like me
Who've seen 1st hand
You will know
You'll understand

For those who've not
I pray you dont
For a normal life
That you wont

But dont give up
Just Do your best
Until its time
For them to rest

And when it's time
For them to go
They will remember
just could not show

How their hands
You held So tight
Not letting go
Day or night

Then on the days
Your feeling sad
Think back, remember
Good times you had

Cause that's one thing
It cannot take
And that's the memories
That you make
