A Dark Rainy Road Poem by Paul Seay

A Dark Rainy Road

Dusk fell with eerie on a snaky dirt road
Stones beneath my feet spoke louder than before
Abandoned round the bend, sat quiet an abode
Dressed dark and empty - the same array we wore
An old oaken fence came between my approach
Symbolic of the fear that had drove in a wedge
Hurry! Must I reach him, for the rain touched us both
As danger arose from the rapids river bed
Scaling atop the obstacle my strength gave way
Pain held the face - that embraced a heavy spill
Landing the other side where greener grass laid
Which severed parts of me - and the scar remains still
The ivy grown cottage stood in sheltered allure
Could I reach neath his awning, along with heed?
While unsturdy and unsure of all he endured
Is he mistook unsettled - and built as me?
There, a shadowed silhouette of a man in hide
Here, a shadowed silhouette of the man inside...
