A Decade Without You Poem by Ayandare Mayowa

A Decade Without You

Rating: 5.0

A decade of not hearing your voice
A decade of not seeing you smile
A decade, still no answer
Why you left without hint, without waive.
A decade of vacuum left
A decade of space unfilled
A decade still many questions,
A decade of no response.

A decade of no mother's day shout out
A decade of no mother's prayers
A decade you left
More than a decade you are missed

Knock knock
Elders of the distant realm
Let this gate be lifted
Let your tenant speak to her seed
I have questions only Esther can answer
Had like go know, if I crossed her mind in her last moments
Was it with pride or disdain?
Was your last breath with smile or sigh?
Do you wish to have fought more or was glad to leave?
Do you really think we did all we could to make you stay?
Was I a pain, was I a joy?
A decade of many questions,
A decade, still no answers.

But,
I heard me say to me
Let go, drown the thoughts,
bid the questions bye,
breathe life to her times.
Celebrate her life.

You are appreciated
Your plantings did thrive
Your seeds have flourished
Tosin reminded us your favourite song the other day.
We sang and danced with smiles.
A decade no more frowns, no longer sad.
We salute all these dreams you birthed.

A decade you left
More than a decade you shall remain with us.
