A Dialogue Between Man And God. Poem by Dorcas Tayire

A Dialogue Between Man And God.

Rating: 5.0

'What would it be, ' said he,
'The world's treasure or me?
If abundantly blessed, will thou still remember me?
For it's because of this,
I let thee have none of it.
So tell me, should I bless
and watch thee stay or leave,
or do I hold back, so thou won't; because of it, leave me'

'Like Job, I'll serve,
in poverty or riches.
Bless me, and I won't leave.
Curse me and still have me.
For my love for you is real.
Rich or poor, I'll serve.
but spare me, dear Lord.
For the suffering bestowed on me is great.'

'Won't thou call me
only when thou is in need?
or would I still have thee with me
even when thou is rich?
Or won't it be,
that thou would despise me
when thou lacks,
cursing my name because of this? '

'It's a promise from me,
So I'm telling you this,
Like Job, I'll serve,
in riches or in need.'

'So be it,
because thou has said so,
I believe.
But if thou fail in thy promise,
I'll take back all I've given,
For i can't watch thee wallow in sin
and let thee be,
for all these, are nothing but vanity.
Don't trade me for it.
Don't forget me when thou has nothing
and remember me when thou have everything,
for I'm your God,
A jealous God and
the one who created thee.'
