A Dream Poem by Sarah Sanabam

A Dream

They came running after me
And I ran away from them.
The maze confused my mind,
I didn’t know where I wanted to be.
I ran and ran hoping to hide.
Each turn just took me deeper
Into the maze, I felt trapped.
I wanted to get out and looked outside
But I was warned not to get out.
I had no choice,
They were coming closer.
My heart beat really loud
As I stepped onto that path.
It was dark and I was scared.
Still I walked. I smelt the sea.
I thought of good things, I thought of God.
I saw the woman, who bore me,
Calling me, drawing me to her.
I missed her.
I went to her, to the sea.
Then, I saw all was a lie.
Too late. I gasped for air.
The water was taking me in.
Even then I knew I wouldn’t die.
I always knew he would save me.
And he did.
His strong arms took me out of the sea.
I wasn’t alone, I was safe with him.
We walked in the pitch dark.
I clung to him for life.
His presence was like a strong beam,
A strong beam of light
That defeated the dark path.
I did not fear anymore,
He was with me and I with him,
And all these I felt in a dream.
