A Dream Poem by Ruth G. Rogers

A Dream

Last night I had a pleasant dream,
I dreamed about the month of May;
So I'll repeat it now to you
To tell it, I could ne'er delay.

I dreamed the heav'ns were all aglow
With stars so bright and fair.
And the moon with all its silver ray
Shown on your golden hair.

The shades of night were falling fast.
As we sat beneath the trees;
Swaying in the hammock, there,
We heard the whis'ring breeze.

I asked you if you loved me,
And you made no reply;
But I could tell your answer
By the sparkle in your eye.

Only you, my sweetheart,
Can make this dream come true;
So that I can ne'er regret
Those thoughts I had of you.

I'm sure that God has heard my prayer,
For now my dream's come true;
For last night in the hammock,
You whispered, "I love you".
