A Lamp To My Feet Poem by Michael P. Johnson

A Lamp To My Feet

A LAMP TO MY FEET
"And there it was, just lying there
Crinkled on the ground
From what I read I'd like to share
The treasures then I found

Even before the page was turned
I felt inside so strange
I'd read that You were so concerned
You died; my heart to change

I went to church I bought the book
I read Your word each day
Just like a fish I took the hook
Through faith, I knew I'd stay

Your word is life, my daily bread
And through it, all was made
Without it, man would soon be dead
All else would surely fade

It's now the lamp unto my feet
Your plan for me on high
My means to life, my daily meat
Life's water when I'm dry

Your word will never void return
Though oft it may sound strange
It tastes so sweet, yet bellies burn
When hearts begin to change

It came while still a dying fool!
With wisdom bringing hope!
Now deep inside, You've come to rule
Teaching this child to cope

It's through a tract, The Truth I've found
Through grace, I'm born anew
In faith I seek the higher ground
And endless life with You….."
