A Letter To God Poem by Showkat Ahmad Wani

A Letter To God

I never set my heart in ink for you
As screams of innocence in fate are cast,
And found reproach of storm for cries of pain
For warming love, a chilly loathing sting,
And found the thorny scars for wreath of rose;
Now this lone heart doth speak beneath the pen,
I lost my treasure pride to rival known,
We met before the gates of reason's light
And found a silent peace in barren sands,
In pages filled with reason's grand deceit
And books of modern law now grant her chance
To gleam beneath the shadowed beast's command,
He gave a word to guide my reasoned choice
The fruits of selfish tree, the boughs of spring
The words of cruelty, the beast in rage,
When asked great desire of numbing truth,
To cast aside the rusted crown of pride,
To make the Self a tyrant, guard the soul
Upon the noose, he swore to grant me wish,
And sovereignty of comfort, grant the wand
With magic strong and worthy of delight,
And words of alchemy, bestowed the pure
Ablution, turned the lamb into a lion,
And asked for nothing more than honest yield,
My lifeless soul remains in idle rest,
With bolts of thought, I followed paths of light;
He softly shares his being of God in love,
My dear, when Devil lights thy soul on fire,
Then sense my way, then run to tap my gate.
