A Life In The Army Poem by sam gale

A Life In The Army

One solider,
One war,
One ending…
One knife, one gun, one bullet that’s all it takes to loose a life
That’s the life in the army.
A proud day, tears of hope and regret, prayers of forgiveness and survival and thoughts of adventure.
Days on end of non-stop fire and bombs, the rain pouring like a fountain, the mud like quicksand, swallowing the feet of the proud and finishing the finished,
The crawl day that they all fear came upon the group of soldiers the words of the general echoed endlessly threw there ears,
“ GO! GO! GO! GO OVER GO! ” these are the words that echoed upon the soldiers,
The smell of the blood of their friends now rising, the sound of the guns passing their heads and the rats drowning, the taste of the mud mixed with blood in the mouth of the innocent and misled, the sight of the smoke, this is it.
One sprint…
One knife…
One gun…
One bullet...
Tears of pride…
A puddle of blood….
A phone call home…
That’s the life in the army
