A Life Of Silence Poem by Mel Reyes

A Life Of Silence

A life of silence
Mel Reyes

She doesn't speak
Because she's afraid

Poor judgment
pinned onto her shirt
like a label of some type
a worthless being pushed aside

She pleads for one to find
Her soul of solitude
To understand her mind
Her point of view

But no one does
Is she rare?
Or simply,
Does nobody care?

Insert her in a sentence
The conversation
dies quick

Set her as a friend
The odds are set

She is like a pest
that wont go away
or so she thinks this way

Ask her to go somewhere
maybe tag to a film
She will refuse too quickly
Unnoticed nervousness
laced in her voice

She wants to talk,
to be noticed in the world
To stand up
Make a difference
But she can't

Or maybe she can

But the odds are set
Maybe she was born
for nothing more
than to be set aside
a castaway bird
with a broken beak

A life of silence
Is a painful joke
But she lives everyday
And makes it through

In high hope
She looks into the future
And awaits a friend
Who will understand her.
