A Little Prayer Poem by Ma Aileen Canizares Salibay

A Little Prayer

I need no word
nor a hand to hold
Let my tears race down on my face.
Let me fall weak on my knees.

As two souls from a distance
rejoice their hearts' chants
their tune blows a numbing cold
dragging my soul down to Hades' world

But tonight let me whisper a prayer.
As the night grows like a sepulcher,
let the wind rock me high up in the sky
as serenity hums its sweetest lullaby.

Let silence hush the ruffling leaves
singing dirges in my ears.
Let the moon shine bright.
Let its warm bring great delight.

Let this little prayer
comfort my greatest fear
to help me stand brave
and not lay me in grave.
