A Look At Life-62

A LOOK AT LIFE-62
BY-SMRUTI RANJAN MOHANTY

THE IMMORTAL 'I'

The unknown and infinite
that precedes and succeeds
the known and finite
is as real as the present, we live in.
I never feel
there was a time
when I was not,
there will ever be a time
when I will not be.
Despite repeated attempts, I failed to die,
failed miserably to annihilate me.
I have felt my body dying,
seen people around me crying
and taking me to the funeral pyre,
the physical body burning into ashes,
merging with its sources,
earth, air, water, fire and space.
When everything seems exhausted and consumed by time, when people say I am dead
I feel me, my existence the same way as I was feeling before, vibrant, full of life and consciousness.
I feel as if I am the immortal 'l'
beyond space, causation and time.
It seems as if nothing has happened
I don't see death
but life undergoing changes and transformations everywhere,
whatever I see and what lies beyond my vision and perception.
I witness the whole process,
the drama of evolution and involution,
birth, growth, death and rebirth as separate states of the cosmic consciousness,
as a separate entity beyond body and mind.
