A Mask Poem by Sarah Riley

A Mask

You hid yourself,
From us, from the world.
Afraid to show who you really are.
You put on a mask,
One you thought we'd like.
But as you wore the mask,
it kept getting tighter and tighter
As you got deeper in your lies.
You had no choice,
You had to reveal yourself.
But when you took of the mask,
What remained...
Was a monster.

Some real truth in those words.
