I met my younger self for a chat today
She hopped up onto the rocks we used to chill on,
I struggled to get up there, but managed,
She took her usual spot by the edge
I'd spent too long on the edge and decided to stay in the middle,
She looked disappointed at how I'd let us go.
The day was cold though you'd never know by looking at her,
She wore jeans and a cami vest top and an array of necklaces,
I was still favouring the jeans but layered up a tee shirt and jacket
She never did feel the cold.
After a while she asked the question I knew she'd want to know,
I told her the truth with a smile on my face,
She gazed at me unflinching, can what I say be true?
Yes I said, believe me because I believe in you.
She skipped down from the rock and I stumbled ungracefully after,
We walked along the promenade discussing our musical likes that we found to be unchanged
She saw the time and had to dash as she had somewhere else to be,
We went our separate ways having had the best of days reminiscing.
I hope to meet her again someday.
