A Mixed Marriage Poem by John Bannister Tabb

A Mixed Marriage

Said Tom to Pussie, 'Out of nine,
Eight lives I'd give to make you mine.'
'Alas,' said Pussie with a tear,
'I'd not so long outlive you, dear!'
Whereat, with plighting paw and purr,
Nine lives to nine united were.
