A Mystery Of Mysteries Poem by Shirley Harrison

A Mystery Of Mysteries

A mystery of mysteries

this old life given to me

why do I fight the foe?

within these veins that be?

once upon a time

I was a glass of champagne

now I see my reflection

and all I see are stains?

a mystery of mysteries

this old life given to me

what's it all about?

I hear my lonely soul cry and plea

broken by the ocean?

or the falling branch of a tree?

pushed over by the wind?

or drowning in the sea?

if we are all just a ship

passing through the night

then why do some get to sail

landing on shore in new light?

others get to sink

never knowing sunshine bright?

the soul is a power?

a uniqueness that every human owns?

so maybe just maybe

sometimes our souls can be our foe?
