A Naked Face Poem by Audrey Michelle

A Naked Face

A smile can tell a thousand lies

Its truth unrecognizable to its possessor
Within the reflection of a mirror
Hung upon so many walls
By too many broken nails

Every night seems darker than its prior
And each morning's sun rises later
Awakens to shine without interruption
Upon a sidewalk once littered with the shadow of existence

Too many stepped on cracks
And a face is left to age naked
Except for a smile etched by the cruellest of memories
As an everlasting reminder of a once newly purchased mirror

Where did last fall's leaves go?
