A New Life Poem by Jennifer Jarrell

A New Life

The choice of rebirth my only conviction,
It's time I know to end my adiction.
As the demon awaits in the back of my mind,
I can't do this on my own, a Higher power I must find.
As the fog clears I no longer want to use or take a drink,
With a long search, a light in my soul starts to blink.
As I take my seat, I start to feel a strong yearning,
Steady I sit just waiting to do some learning.
Anxiety sets in as my heart starts to pound,
A peaceful sensation, a new home I have found.
Hand and hand they help me to recover,
One day at a time a new way of life I will discover.
With the 12 steps and prayer I shall remain strong,
Loving support helps me to stay even when the road seems to long.
I've heard it said ' I've come a long long way.',
Never to be alone, why wouldn't I stay.
Looking forward to what this new life holds instead of what was spent,
It has not broken me, I was merely bent.
Know it's time to hit my knees and start kneeling,
Thank you God for aiding me in my healing.
