A Pancake Day Poem by john coldwell

A Pancake Day

No more poems about some pretty flower,
We need poems that have some power.
Poems that deal with ruthless facts,
Poems to stop a steam train in it's tracks.
Poems that do not just inspire,
But can even fix a punctured tyre!

So today we launch a revolution,
Poetry will be the grand solution.
For every question on your lips,
It will even predict the next eclipse.
We'll start by showing you the way,
To a bold, heroic pancake day!

Plainest flour,4 ounce will do,
Salt, a pinch, and one egg too,
Half a pint of milk and watter,
Is all you need to make the batter.
Mix it till it begins to seem,
The consistency of single cream.

Now comes the fun part folks.
Heat the pan till the oil smokes.
Pour in three tablespoons of batter.
A little more or less won't matter.
A couple of minutes until it's fried,
Now toss it over to the other side!

If you managed that well done!
Now go and try another one,
Put the first one on a plate,
Keep on going till you get eight.
Serve with sweet, or serve with savoury,
Syrup, juice or onion gravery.

So all praise the Be-Ro book of baking,
For guidance in the pancake making.
This useful poem you may keep and use,
Freely, as you care to choose.
But if you find utilitarian poems exciting,
Just remember who has the copywriting
