A Penny For Your Thoughts Poem by Leonard Snow

A Penny For Your Thoughts

See a penny, pick her up
and all the day you'll have good luck
If instead she makes you frown
place her gently upon the ground

If I had a penny for your thoughts
would she be tarnished or good as new
with starry shimmer or golden hue
dented or dull or as delightful as you

Would she weigh light upon my palm
or burden to hold inside the hand
Cold to touch and soon to numb
or impart a tender warmth and calm

Her symbols etched, what would they spell
Your deepest secrets, would they foretell
Your every single hope and dream
I'll cast for you into the wishing well

If I had a penny, for all your thoughts
I'd polish them pure until they shined
build a castle of love divine
to keep you safe till the end of time
