A Place To Make Love - Poem by Roshan Koirala

A  Place to Make Love

Come love, we'll find a place to make love,
A make-shift love-nest of urban kindling,
Out of the diarrhoeic and pyrrhic modernity of our mores,
Out of dithering,
Out of the dilettantish brushstrokes of our imaginations
To stamp into our bodies
Bits of our frothing selves.

Come love, hither.
To this public park as it begins to grow dark
Like the rapid onrush of puberty.
Then we shall shine into each other
The surest rays of knowing.
Come with me to this divine lair
Where we'll each be sitting side by side on a chair,
Eyes glued to the glowing screen
And heartbeats beating time to the tango of our fondling.
Come, let's  scandalise the whole town
Kissing and caressing our tamest parts
In footpaths and food-marts,
In ice-cream stalls and by artificial waterfalls,
And make the onlookers scowl their disapproval
In the titillated scream of their deceptive grimaces.
Come love, let's nourish the foetus of coitus
In these receding shades of dusty colonnades,
Where lurk the spooky days of dazed teenagers,
Where sulks the disturbed sleep of blatant bumdom,
Only to turn to the next side and snore away like regular farts.
Come love, let's have some messing up to show for all this fussing.
Unlike any political rhetoric, lets wind-up into
An oasis of real peace.
Let's have some rain to show for this writhing and sweltering.

My love,
In this porn-bound and love-lost paradise of consumption
We'll find a nook for redemption corporeal,
Where our bohemian spirits will dust their feathers
Off the itching grime of indoctrinated self-loathing,
Where our sane solitudes will fight off
The pricking warts of self-denial,
Where out of our cliché-ridden fantasies
We'll renew our commitments through earthy toil.

Come love, let's make love like we really lust.
Let's make love like we feel we must.
Let's make love like we feel we must.

Poet's Notes about The Poem

How lovemaking is still a perilous activity in many non-Western cities like Kathmandu.

Beautiful romantic piece of poetry, well articulated and nicely brought forth in heightened poetic diction with insight. Subtly erotic. Thanks for sharing Roshan. (Report)Reply
