A Poem Of Peace

A Poem of Peace
By Patrick Schiess

Why do we choose to fight?
We should be loving and caring for others
We must join and unite together
For we are all sisters and brothers

There are people who want revenge
And some people just want pain
We must stop this madness now
Before things get to insane

If we look at what we’ve done
The violence is off the chart
We can no longer deny it or run
Anger and hate have split us apart

But we still have a fighting chance
To reunite ourselves with love
We just have to look inside ourselves
And listen to our father above

If we could love as one
The world would be a better place
There would be no wars or fighting
And no hate of gender or race

Why is there so much pain?
Why are some people just cruel?
Its clear we’ve denied God’s Ten Commandments
And we have forgotten the Golden Rule

Why are so many people
Overwhelmed and controlled by greed
They only care about what they want
And not what others need

If we could learn to love
The world would fix itself fast
If we could build a better future
We could quickly forget the past

The Lord gave us a gift
That gift is a world to live
The Lord is trying to teach us a lesson
That lesson is how to give

However, to many of the lessons he offers
So many of us refuse to learn
He gives us so many wonderful gifts
And we do not even pray in return

But there are still some people in sight
Actually, many who know not to fight
These people thank God every night
These are the ones who spread the light

So if we could join together
We could live as sisters and brothers
After all the heart beats best
When it is beating for others
