A Poet Over A Prince Poem by Teenage Mawuto

A Poet Over A Prince

Rating: 5.0

this affair is dangerous
what if someone sees us
& tells the prince about us
my life will turn into an anus
you might even loose your status

my world is just slavery
my life is deteriorating property
I smell like the worst of poverty
I am nothing & I look like no money
how do you love such a nobody

I'm just a poet & I stink
I can't even afford ink
if your choose me over a prince
you won't ever eat meat
only wild fruit & rhyme lyric

the prince is a ruthless man
if he finds out about our affair
certainly I will loose my head
all you will be left with is tears
& nobody to conquer your fears

are you willing to be risky
to risk all your royalty
for poorest poverty
from eating turkey
to hustling for honey

are you willing to leave a prince
& run away with a layman like me
words is all I have for you & me
are you willing to listen to me
blessing you every night with poetry

if you come with me
our home won't have possessions
I won't buy you diamond rings
I won't afford to move you with a Mercedes
all I can move you with is poetry in motion

there won't be no Valentine's gift
except for the sweet poetry
that I will write about the beauty
of how you chose a poet over a prince
how you chose true love over riches

like how I take my time looking at your eyes
like how I take my time
writing a poetic line
take your time my love
& think about what you're leaving behind

if we finally run away
promise me you'll never look back
for if you ever do that
like the wife of Lot
you'll turn into a pillar of salt
