A Prayer Answered Poem by Emma Atkinson

A Prayer Answered

God, you've heard the secret longings of my heart.
I know not even where to start,
For 'thank you' will never suffice,
And in the halo of your blessing,
I can only smile and smile
At your loving caressing,
How your divine fingers
Have tended the weak flame of my life.
Their trace lingers,
And with joy, I exclaim.
My heart is liable to explode-
My joy cannot be contained,
Except within an infinite smile,
The width of oceans.
Completely untamed.
I want to laugh and cry,
And forever look to the sky
And smile with resplendent abandon,
To think that there were ever clouds.
