A Prisoner's Voice - Poem by Dilantha Gunawardana

Lease the mind beyond any dam
Please the heart beyond bedlam
Love like a fool, dream like a child
Let yourself go to your untamed wild

Savage heart breaths in a strain of courage
What no man can temper, no coward can cage
There lies within a fragility that silently cries
Yet the wings rise in this fog of lies

Like a cub that grew a mane
Like a nestling that braved the rain
Like a plant that seeped the sweat of sap
A boy emerged from his mother's lap

Far far away yet ever so near
Sanity and insanity blending ever so dear
A fool forever, a savage soul in love
Healing lost hope, with graces from above

When love is a casualty, prisoners brave
Searching for the light from a crevice in a cave
Like melancholia dilutes to a grain of light
Chains are broken to love's tender might

On a quilt in bedlam, love prospers in the wild
Where intense passion grooms the inner child
Love like the wind, for Aeolus is a mad man
Transcend beyond any horizon's span

Martin, I don't really have a dream
Nelson, I am just an island in hope's stream
God, I am a merely a boy in a man's lair
Searching for freedom in love's healing glare

Hope is like a fungus beneath the brain
Love is like a cloud filled with rain
Spirit perpetuates untamed by any man
God, I don't have prayers but I'm still your fan
