A Promise Fulfilled Poem by Linda LeBlanc

A Promise Fulfilled

I promised I'd bury you
there, in our front yard,
beneath the tree you loved to lie under
while I weeded the flowers.

I promised I'd bury you
there, in the cool inviting shade
where you lay in summer, keeping watch
from our farm that bears your name.

I promised I'd bury you
there, under the tree you loved,
with a cross to show our love for you
and your love for our home.

I promised I'd bury you
there, and now I do,
in winter, teary-eyed, while branches bare
bespeak my sorrow that you're gone.
