A Psalm Of Life Poem by Dr John Celes

A Psalm Of Life

No garden's born by singing, ‘What Beauty! '
No wealth is made by staying much lazy;
No feat's achieved except by diligence;
No soul is saved except by repentance.

You seek good things and goodness, you will find;
You seek evil and evil you will bind;
You seek just earthly riches all in vain;
You seek heavenly riches that can't feign.

Obey your parents, God will bless your toil;
Obey your teachers, life can't ever spoil;
Obey your conscience, soul is never lost;
Obey your Maker, love Him at all cost.

Diligence brings a fortune but with time;
Diligence finds solutions those sublime;
Diligence changes fate amidst all odds;
Diligence brings in life lasting rewards.

Write letters like scrolls to hang upon the walls;
Write books with patience that will fill all stalls;
Write words of wisdom no one can refute;
Write songs soul-stirring that challenge the lute.

Success will come if efforts fall in line;
Success like sun after the rains will shine;
Success could go amiss without God's grace;
Success comes not by sloth in any race.

Why dream of things unseen in fantasy?
Why work without a risk as policy?
Why slander words your neighbor's heart?
Why curse or wish ill brethren on your part?

The tree with poison fruits has poison roots;
The branch with poison flowers gives poison shoots;
The fame not long-lasting isn't worth in life;
The love of God is tested much in strife.
