A Reason For Me Poem by Alyssa Marquardt

A Reason For Me

It's my way or your way, no in between
Would it be a living hell if we could agree to disagree?
Would it be so bad if everyone had a right to their own belief?
Just tell me this:
Why should one way control all the rest?
Since I praise god, I am better than you,
Since I am straight, you shall be too.
My skin is pale, my skin is white.
So that should be the only kind.
Why are we so terrified?
To see anything different.
Is it really that scary?

I work, I write, I study.
I'm poor or I make tons of money.
I'm gay, I'm straight, I'm bi.
I know who I am but I wonder why.
I praise a god, I praise the sun.
I praise nothing and noone.
I am black, I am white, I am brown, I am green.
and no matter what I am, what I praise or what I do,
I mean something.
I mean something and I belong on this earth.
There was a reason for my birth.
There is a reason for me.
