A Sacrificing Mother Poem by Gautam Sen

A Sacrificing Mother

Rating: 5.0

Inconsistency when became a part of life,
Compromises restore apparent normalcy;
Smiles of happiness feigned to combat stringy strife,
With broken fatigued mind you nurtured your fancy.
Failed the inculcation of flares of your tastes
Forced into the darkness of a cold stone-walled cave,
Decaying of spirit brought to you a sad waning waste –
Kept the show on with things untouched for which you craved.

Do they know all these stories, did you tell them ev’r?
Things went on as it could have been, but as mother
To stop the ruin, you had to suppress for ever
All that you inherited from your great father.
You were treated in an unfamiliar way
As you entered your new life with dreams of your own,
Struggles entangled you keeping all your dreams at bay.
Something did thrash you then, you got no time to moan.

Weeping within, you kept your cool just carrying on,
Duties came first to you keeping your needs aside –
You missed your life everyday and from night to dawn
But children failed to miss as you were by their side.
Needs of yours which are still alive within your mind
Now they do breathe in exposing out on surface
You are in search of aesthetics you want to find
Face all odds of life and be ready to confess.

A poignant and personal piece of writing reflective of the sacrificing nature of the special species called Mother! Best wishes.
