A Soldier's Last Wish Poem by Virginia Jasmin Pasalo

A Soldier's Last Wish

to be one with you
at this moment
where dark silhouettes
bring flickering lights
into the marsh
i wait for your light
to heal my open wounds
even when all i see
is an old photograph
and a shadow of your smile

i hold on to your smile
slowly being claimed by the mire
i call out your name
every letter of your long name
as I desperately cling
to the precipice of my consciousness
fast moving with the dark clouds
towards Asteroid B26

my body will be feasted on
by crows
before you find me
if ever you find me
but my soul will be lifted
to the sky
i will become rain

go out into the fields
and dance with me
