A Song In The Silence Poem by Maurice Rowlands

A Song In The Silence

That one thing that you yearn for
As you sail the oceans of your life
Wish it be the silence
Without the singing of a siren
On a long forgotten island
Where nobody dared to visit
If fear could be her wish
For you, it all would come to this
Her voice becomes a knife
Her wish would then be granted
Her song will take your life

That one thing that you long for
As you enter doorways to your goal
Wish it be the silence
Without the singing of a raven
On a long forgotten chapel
Where nobody dared to worship
If hunting could be his wish
For you, it all would come to this
He will hunt and swallow you whole
His wish would then be granted
His song will take your soul

That one thing that you hope for
As you walk pathways in the night
Wish it be the silence
Without the singing of a ghost
In a long forgotten forest
Where nobody dared to enter
If haunting could be her wish
For you, it all would come to this
You’ll be frozen at her sight
Her wish will then be granted
Her song will take your light

The one thing that you wish for
As you face the winters of your time
Is to wish away the silence
And bring that song into your mind
From a long forgotten dream
That you never could remember
If remembering is your wish
For you, it all will come to this
Like when stars become aligned
Your wish will then be granted
And that song will take your mind
