A Treasured Smile Poem by Marie Alexandra R. Ibarra

A Treasured Smile

We’re holding hands—side by side;
Walking on the winded road—the never ending path.
We laugh together,
Cry together,
Never forgetting to share secrets.
Oh, how I wish the time you have with me,
And the time I have with you, will always be forever.
But then one day, I’m lonely—
You’re not by my side anymore.
You promised that you would hold my hand, ‘til the very end,
However, you’re not there; invisible; gone.
So, I curl up in a corner and then begin to cry.
I shed the love of memories—recalling them with you,
And suddenly I see a light that brightened up my life.
You stood there, lifted me up, and hugged me close and tight.
Saying you’d never leave me and you’ll always be at my side.
And soon, you took my hand, and hugged me once again.
From there, you said goodbye.
Your smile lingered in my head that day;
Knowing that we’ll always be—
Best friends forever.
