A Tree Poem by Anisa Tara

A Tree

You put a tree in a garden,
Did you think it through?
That when I had my chance,
I'd turn my back on you?

You put temptation inside me,
You didn't think it through.
I didn't need a serpents charm,
To taste its bitter fruit.

You put this heart inside me,
Did you think You would suffice?
I've searched the seven seas,
None in this world satisfy.

You put longing deep in me,
I have not found its root.
It stings, you offer words
No part of me wants You.

You put a man beside me,
Did you think I would stay?
When the devil beckons me,
With his unending array?

You put a tree in a garden,
I have not found its life.
But I have found this truth,
You put me here to die.
