A Troubled Spirit A Ruined Heart Poem by Stephanie Lynn Daniels

A Troubled Spirit A Ruined Heart

I met you when your heart was ruined
Your spirit was troubled
and your belief in love had exiled itself into the darkest abyss.

I met you when your search for something had only begun,
so your walls were too unyielding for my affections
The shining light of your brilliance
sheltered by your attempt to detach yourself.

I met you when the only thing you knew
was how not to be anything else
but unmoved by the possibility of a connection.

I met you and I was drawn to you
I was drawn to your darkness,
the sadness in your eyes,
the coldness of your once warm heart.

I could love you oneday,
I know I could
When your heart is restored and your spirit is lifted
And your hope in life,
and beauty and love
is clearer than the rising sun on a perfect day.

And what a perfect day that will be.
