A Twisted Bridge Poem by shami giles

A Twisted Bridge

As I run through the trees

Run from your embrace

This love I fear

Hope you’re ready for a chase

I run to a bridge that is rusted and bent

This bridge resembles me

Hopeful and innocent

No matter how many holes, rips, or scars

You tend to hold on to these twisted bars

This burns through my skin I cannot scratch it out

Into a mystic journey with you but I’m ready to find out

As I lie upon the edge of the twisted bridge, shuddered and worried
I conjure up all my courage

I crave and wait for you’re moist embrace

While my memories flood me

I feel your fingers gently caress my face

I stand on the end, I unravel my covered eyes

Yet I feel happy to know your mine

Artificially sweet this moment I stole

I look down and see the bridge has now become whole

A new life has begun

And there is a message

“It chi watashi-tachi”

“We are one”
