A Walk With A Ghost Poem by Olusola Butler

A Walk With A Ghost

The night went quiet
An opened bar made the path to a moment afterwards
A lady tarries right beside me
Forcing words out from a closed lip
And giving ears to an untamed mystery

At first sight, it was all chemistry
Words appeared on the clock, love! Love! Love!
And prospect died at the gate of desperation,
It was the right moment,
I asked for a walk
And she replied, "Okay! "

Along the naked shallow path
A new era arose from the ooze of emptiness
Jingles of grasshoppers
Songs of frogs
And the whispers of the wind

Then she smiled and held my arms
So warm a feeling to reject
Time lost her speed, moment continued
Making the moon to unveil still shadows
And stars are hidden in the blackness of the night

Soon, a light cast against a rock,
An image of ageing shrubs runs along the path,
Bearing a prickly, a silent fear;
And an icy chill encamped in within my mind.

Blood and dew stuck thick on the floor,
A stunted weed gradually grows in height,
Forming vines at one end,
Also, blooming black flowers

Thereafter,
A ghostly image glided beside me swiftly,
And I felt her touch no more.
A silent blink forced tears out of my confused eyes.
Then I asked,

"Who are you? "

She replied me,

"I never knew until but the moment that be,
My heart is enlightened, I feel renewed
Choice has caged me in the realm of desperation
I was trapped in my sleep years ago,
I am glad you gave me breathe again.

I long for this day,
A day to be held by a hand so tender,
And walk side by side along this path.
It was impossible to love,
Today, I have been loved by you.
Thank you.

Tell my story,
For now, I can rest".

Then, she vanished.
