A Wedding Proposal Poem by robert dickerson

A Wedding Proposal

Look, I don't have much.
Life has dealt me some aces
and some nines,
The boo-hoos I've boo-hooed!
Fine.
When it's good it's very good
But altogether it doesn't add up to very much-
not as such.

Look, I know how women like 'em.
Stupid and rich
horny and quick to work-
I am none of these things
in excess (tho' in each I hold my own)
Don't fault me, fault heaven-
if you want bankable
bring back the dowry,
a fine institution
if you ask me.

But what the heck,
But nevertheless,
if you want (like me)
harmony and progeny
and prossa-parity,
Then I am for you
and you're for me,
and you may safetly take the kiss
such as it is,
dropped in this cup,
s-ck it a bit
bitter and sweet
bad and good,
reject or if accept
give it back,
smile
trust and be mine
foreverevermore.
