A Woman Poem by Alexander Nyx

A Woman

My rights are gone, smothered in votes,71 million votes
I am a woman,
What does that mean?
Does it mean that i cannot make choices of my own?
That my body isnt in my control?
Is it right that others can govern my body?
Tell me how to take care of it?

'don't get pregnant' they say
What if it's not my choice?
Is it still my fault?

'don't wear such revealing clothes' they say
I look at my clothes, the long pants and baggy shirts.
Is it too revealing?

'in this room none of us have rights' i hear my friend say
She is 14 and her mother might get deported
I look around the room at all of us.
Latinos, Women, Lgbt and me

I'm a woman.
I look at my girlfriend
Is it wrong to love her?
To want to be with her?
Should i stop?
Stop being me?

No matter what i do i wont have rights because i am a woman
and that has condemned me.
from the moment i was born expectations are lower for me because i have a slimmer body, breasts, a female reproductive organ.
And that is how i know that this world is not somewhere i want to be.
can i take my own life.
or is that just another thing the government won't let me do with MY body
