A Working Clock With A Broken Cog Poem by Ros Venn

A Working Clock With A Broken Cog

Time, time, time,
Time has passed, Time has come, Time has gone,
I am but a meaningless cog with no teeth,
There are many like me,
Though this should be comforting it is not,
It is frightening, for all hope is lost,
How can a cog with no teeth contribute,
Constantly turning and turning,
Not producing anything productive,
I fear no compatible cog can be found,
At least not until I am broken, replaced or repaired,
I cannot stop turning just as time cannot stop moving,
What is a year in a meaningless existence but a blink of an eye,
Hear I go again awake in the early hours of the morning unable to sleep,
As thoughts continue to batter at my consciousness,
Asleep I want to be but wide awake I am.
