not just cells—
innocent lives forsaken.
unformed children sacrificed
on the altar of convenience.
judged for the sin of existing,
executed for the crime
of conception.
tiny fingers and tiny toes
barely the size of pins.
lungs that will never breathe fresh air.
stabbed, poked, dismantled, discarded,
all of it rubbish,
thrown out like garbage.
formed in darkness,
returned to oblivion—
never to see the light of day.
spared the agonies of living—
but—
denied the joys of it, too.
a person
never to be.
