Access Denied Poem by Chris Todd, Jr.

Access Denied

Cold steel penetrates,
The flesh,
Arteries and veins collapse,
Soon I’ll be dead,
And long forgot,
My body,
Lies in ruin,
Grief and sorrow follow,
The preacher comforts them,
Yet words have no meaning,
They stand and watch,
Frozen soil,
Covers my grave,
Flowers adorn my shrine,
Tears flow like rivers,
As I watch from afar,
I watch them suffer,
All the tears,
All the prayers,
All in vain,
I denied them all,
Just my memory remains,
I watch,
As they’re torn apart,
Their agony too much to bear,
Day by day,
I hear their prayers,
As they go unanswered,
The answer they seek,
To the grave with me they went,
I watch and wonder,
What it would be like,
If I was still alive,
Six feet under,
Yet I still walk the Earth with,
Sadness and regret,
I wish I could take it back,
But what’s done is done,
Heaven denied,
Hell’s flame lap my every step,
Human no more,
I walk the Earth forevermore…
