Across My Coffee Table Poem by Gbolabo Adetunji

Across My Coffee Table

Banned from the city
You crept into the country
And here you are
In this small village
Like a celebrity

Your face
Takes a break from the press
Your name takes a moment
From the reports

Everyone
Except you
Remembers your name
No one
Except you
Remembers your face
With the new goatee
And the dyed pony tail

They are looking for the bounty
They want the prize
The money that seats
Smiling
Across my Coffee table
