Adam Where Art Thou Poem by John Burns

Adam Where Art Thou

Adam! Where Art Thou?

As the Holy net encloses
Unexamined deed and thought
And the early acts that shattered
Midst the ruins healing sought.

Fleeing the Eternal Spirit
Down the days and down the nights
Hearing fixed unhurried footsteps
And the Voice that offers Light.

Where art thou, O Adam, man?
Who disturbs my soul, Who dares?
Who invades my sleep with questions?
Who confronts my mind? Who cares?

Ah! These questions so intruding.
Not a plain, How do you do?
But this! Come now out of hiding!
Who and what and where are you? .
