Addiction Poem by Alyssa Rieper

Addiction

Why am I letting addiction show through?
I tried to think just pure thoughts towards you
With a hop in your step, sparkle in eye
The moments under table are the ones I deny
But the doves have ceased song, they rain from the trees
And the rust has chipped from inside of me
I've cleaned your fingers from the painted past
Unwound the bandage from my heart at last
Allow this pleasure to invade my objective
Can't stop myself and be more protective
Take this gift, this ball of clay
Create a white from all this gray
I've lost a little, gained a few
I found a side of me that's you
So toss the ideas, juggle my reasons
And watch them change like the passing seasons
