Adolescence Poem by Matthew Chen

Adolescence

Once upon a time, in a country far away,
Where a dark manor silently laid,
Where the wind sounded with screeching rage,
And a boy broke out of that everlasting cage.

With black hair and silver eyes,
A gaze of two moons penetrated the night.
Faced with a choice, he ran away,
Knowing that fate would not sway.

Walking past those iron gates,
His mind was filled with hate.
“This is my life not theirs, ”
“It’s not like they will even care.”

But the country he found was filled with despair;
Everything around him bent in prayer
And as the red phoenix set,
The cities become their worse yet.

Yet he wandered out,
Not knowing what life was truly about.
Although the haze was dark and frightening,
He could still see a star shining.

Indeed he created his own life,
With his own hands and mind.
“Dreams fail many, hard work fails none.”
