Adomas Mickevicius
Poetical Portrayal
(i)
Constructivist looking forward
on to the future head up
his hands covering his chest
leaning on pillar pedestal
At the same time as to
support his stature clad in
some giant foldings of cape-like
clothes that fall round his body
Like feathers to his skin
as his patient posture is
not without animal semblance
but the man-made shaft
Tells he is human as much
as column differs from stone.
(ii)
Though his posture is like quietude
the dynamics of his dress show
he is surely not mindless but
dreaming life beyond mañana
And his stare is not without elegance
of poets whose view is beyond arrogance
And his mouth could be very serious
like poets that are never contemptuous
On life and death he could be meditating
which his eyes are still silently winking.
