Adrift Poem by Umar Abdullah

Adrift

Love between man
And woman
Can seem strange.

Is it a curse,
Or is it a blessing?

Is this love between us,
Ambiguous
Or
Ambivalent?

Nay, I reckon it is very clear.
For in Him we need to fear

This love that which has brought us
Drifting -
Sailing in a boat pushed by evil winds that mean no good.

Nay, love ain't the reason we be astray
Our own selfish desires stepped in the way

It distracted us from the course we chartered,
Distracted -
Left the navigation wheel unmanned

Let us chart a new course,
One which sails along the straight path

Let us maneuver against the strong winds that push us off course
And let's sail towards our voyage,
Eventually to a newfound land where our love knows no bounds

The stars tell us we are years away from our destination,
Let's be honourable voyagers,
Not cunning pirates,
Not foul-mouthed sailors

He is the Lord Of The Seas
Please Him and by His will,
He would lead us,
To this newfound land of which we seek
And make the journey easier for us,
For we are insignificant,
We are weak
