African Daughter I Poem by Jacques Sprenkie Mateya

African Daughter I

One world, one heart and one mind
I am the only legitimate child of the universe
And African daughter of my era

The height of Kilimanjaro Mountain
Doesn't over high my confidence
The Magic of Victoria Falls
Doesn't outweigh my beauty
The natural beauty of three sisters
Is underweight to my magnificence
Waves of Pacific Ocean
Doesn't wave with same flows with my essence
Because my essence is an African essence
And I am the only legitimate child of the universe
African daughter of my era

I have survived through the injustice of the past
I have broken chains of poverty
I have defeated xenophobia
I am making life out of my brain
And I will conquer HIV/AIDS
BECOUSE I was born to succeed
I am African daughter of my era
And I am the only legitimate child of the universe

My existence is not coincidence
Because I am well sophisticate than big cities
My aspiration is defined by a route from Cape to Cairo
My Pigmentation is sketch of my cultural ardor
My success is manifest by my enthusiasm
I am African daughter of my era
And I am the only legitimate child of the universe

I am unique and I live in my own world,
Talk about my IQ
I am special
Hard to find and rare, Like platinum
I am brave enough to rectify my own mistakes
I am brainy, I can invent and devise
BECOUSE I am African daughter of my era
And I am the only legitimate child of the universe
