After A Long Workday Poem by Phayvee Noema

After A Long Workday

After a long workday, I want
To return home to a gentle hand, soothing my weary back, I want
To spill the tales of my day, telling who annoyed me, the funniest thing that happened, and all the gossip for the day to a willing ear who'd never get tired of listening to me
I want to be checked upon with genuine care, asked how I am doing and how my day went
I want to smile over my phone, not just from memes but from conversations that brighten the day
Besides, wake up to a sweet good-morning text before the craziness of the day sets in. A text in the middle of the day to say 'I am here if anything comes up'
I want to feel the excitement of anticipating a fancy weekend date
Most of all, I want someone I find solace in when my own space feels suffocating
